Minutes: AIGA Fresno Chapter Informational Meeting

Call to Order
The AIGA Fresno Chapter informational meeting was called to order by Katrina Neufeld at 5:40PM, October 7, 2009, at 1724 Broadway St., Fresno, CA.

Attendees
The meeting was attended by Layne Lev, Lynn Baker, Samuel J. Tekunoff, Kevin Chavez, Floyd Sanchez, Jason Thomas, Cristine Danauy, Victor Ramayrat, Suzanne Bertz-Rosa, Jess Vincent, Michael Parola, Travis Sheridan and Katrina Neufeld.

The following presentations were presented:

• How the AIGA is organized by Floyd Sanchez, Antilabs
• AIGA Membership by Katrina Neufeld, Neu Design
• AIGA: Starting a new chapter by Katrina Neufeld, Neu Design

Discussion and Questions
Following the presentations the floor was opened for questions and general discussion.

Some issues/questions that came up were:

• Membership dues are too expensive for the perceived benefits. What is the actual value of the outlined benefits for the individual designer?
• How will this effect the success and prosperity of the Fresno Design Alliance?
• What percentage of the membership dues are retained by the chapter?
• Given the lack of participation in the Fresno Design Alliance, how can we expect participation to be any different for an AIGA Chapter in Fresno?
• How can we sustain a viable and active AIGA Chapter here in Fresno?

Circulate the Chapter petition
The chapter petition was not circulated. Katrina Neufeld asked for a show of hands for those designers that would be willing to commit to joining the AIGA at the professional level and to help form a Fresno chapter. Seven people, including Katrina, said they would be willing. The other people who did not agree where either not present at the time of inquiry or cited the cost of membership for their reason.

Next steps were not discussed.
